Double Update: Basketball Week #6 in review & Season Stats in Review

Aight fellas, this weeks breakdown is a two parter. First, I'll review the final games of the regular season, then I will go over some of the regular season ending stats.
Pt.1: Week #6 in review: Camo 'steals' regular season crown, RED eliminated
CAMO 69, RED 55
The tide of this game turned before the contest even started. At approx. one hour before tipoff, RED felt that they had the big advantage, with CAMOs top two players both slated to not be there (Anthony Voisient for legit reasons, and Pep (who riding the teacups at DisneyWorld)). However, Voisinet was pulling a ruse on both teams by claiming 'labor' for his significant other, Kori. Luckily the (soon to be) newborn decided to stay away from the birth canal long enough for Voisient to make the contest. As well, RED was dealt a blow when it was found out that MONK would not be able to make this all important contest, putting them at just 5 players for the 2nd game in a row.
As for the game, CAMO came out firing on all cylinders, led by the cutting and slashing play of guard Jared Watford (21pts, 9rebs). Unfortunately for Watford, he was unable to garner smiles from his girlfriend, Becki, similar to those she expressed when Voisinet banked in 4 straight 30 foot shots in warm ups. (Pep was partaking of the thrilling 'its a small world' ride at this time).
CAMOs Tyler Spaulding, coming off his best point production game of the season (14 in week 5), had another solid outing, this time getting 4 assists and 4 steals. (Pep was now getting his picture taken with Mickey Mouse)
With the precision of an assassin, CAMOs Brandon came up with two HUGE 3 point buckets, and getting his season high of 6 points. Curlee had another solid outing, with 12 points and 2 steals (6 if you count those he snagged from his teammates). CAMOs Zach had a stellar performance, making over 60% of his free throw attempts in warm ups (Pep was now seeing if Cinderalla's glass slipper actually did fit...alas, his foot was too big.)
For RED, they did all they could, but with only five players, and one of them being 'better late than never' Chuck Gaj, the attrition of the game was too much.
Steve King led the contest in 'birthdays celebrated', and also points with 25, as well 8rebs. Mike Dillingham had another strong game with 11 points and 5 assists. His renaissance may be the biggest story of this season. Josiah Connor shocked the world by tying his season high with 6 points, and two, count'em TWO, made 3's. Big Mike, coming off an ankle injury that kept him out of week 5, turned in a respectable stat line with 13pts, 5rebs, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
CAMO needed two win and win solidly to hold off a potential overtaking for the #1 seed by BLACK in the nightcap. They squandered and 22 point lead, and RED would pull as close as 7, but CAMO would extend the lead to 14 (with Matt nailing the final two buckets of the game) to finish the contest at 69-55. Would this and a 4 game win streak be enough?
BLACK 65, ORANGE 44
Orange knew that only a colossal collapse in this contest would keep them out of week #7's playoffs (as they needed to lose by more than 52). BLACK had to score more than 58 AND win by more than 27 points to steal away the #1 seed from CAMO. Throughout the game RED players cheered on BLACK and CAMO players cheered on ORANGE in hopes of gaining the outcome that would best suit their squad.
However, moreso than any game this season, this game became a battle of physical proportions. Imagine braveheart, 300, or Lord of the Rings when the two opposing sides came charging at one another full speed, colliding in the middle, swinging axes and swords wildly. This was the BLACK/ORANGE game, except replace the 'axes and swords' with arms, and also minus any actual completed decapitations. The closest anyone came to dismemberment was Dean Moose Luce nearly de-arming Shawn McElfresh on a tomahawk block. A record 147 fouls (estimated) went uncalled in this contest.
At one point the rules of the contest became so confusing for ORANGE'S Zak Bernard that he went into volleyball mode (spiking the basketball), then into 'Punt, Pass, and Kick contest' mode, with a nice 35 yard rage filled punt of the basketball. Unfortunately for he and ORANGE, both of these acts resulted in technicals and an ejection. By league rule he will now miss the next contest.
Trey Pearson put up his 6th consecutive double double of the season (20pts, 15rebs). No one else in the league came anywhere near this feat. Brian McElfresh put up 16pts and added 4 steals. Jeff McLean had his best night of the seaosn, dropping in 7 points, and 'Silky Smooth' Dustin added 5. Jeff Martin added 10pts/7rebs, and Tyler Register also contributed 7. 'Whose my fav'rit play-yah? Mister William Dong' did not contribute any recordable stats, but his mere presence helped propel his team to victory.
ORANGE saw.... wait for it.... wait for it.... JACK SHEAVES lead his team in scoring with 12 points (4 threes)! This is the first time all season that a captain, not named Brian McEfresh, was anywhere near the top of the scoring for a game. Sheaves also added a late technical for good measure. Jesus also scored 12 (8 of which in the last 2 minutes), and Stuart Compton had 6pts and 10rebs. Eric Bushong had his best game with 4pts and an assist. Dean 'Moose on the' Luce added 8rebs & the aforementioned block. Big Tom dropped in 2 points and got two rebounds. Dean Blowers somehow obtained 8 rebounds, and led the league for 'rebounds by a player under 5'6"' with 39 on the season.
The victor of this contest was never in doubt. BLACK ran away early, and it merely became a matter of 'who would finish where'.
It looked as though BLACK would run away with the game, and overtake CAMO on tiebreakers (holding a more than 20 point lead for the last 10 minutes of the game), but ORANGEs Jesus had a late flurry, scoring on many end of game possessions, to make the 27 point plateau become out of reach for BLACK.
With the final score 65-44, CAMO takes the tiebreaker 2-1 over BLACK (teams ended up tied head to head, BLACK gets points for, CAMO gets points against and point differential). ORANGE also takes a 2-1 tiebreaker over RED (teams ended up tied head to head, RED gets points for by one point 324-323, but ORANGE gets points against and point differential) to claim the #3 slot.
Next week's 7pm game will see #3 ORANGE vs #2 BLACK, with the winner having to turn right around and play #1 CAMO at 8pm for the 2011 Summer League Championship.
PART 2: STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Below are the compiled stats for the season. Thanks to Jack Sheaves for the idea of having an extra stat page at the table to keep track of rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. And also a big thanks to my wife Toni for running the table, and doing the stat input into our googledocs sheet every Monday night.
Keep in mind that no numbers are exact. With different people keeping these stats per game, its hard to know exactly what criteria was used or who got credit for what. With that being said, many of these numbers are quite interesting. So here we go:

A couple typos… most notably Orange’s points FOR are 323 not 320.
